Who is behind this initiative?

The Knowledge Ark is a decentralised, non-commercial initiative coordinated by a distributed team of cultural preservation enthusiasts, researchers, and technologists. We operate as a networking platform — connecting people and institutions who care about preserving human knowledge.

Is there a financial commitment?

No. There is no financial commitment and no immediate obligation at any stage. This is a purely non-commercial, charitable initiative.

How is this funded?

The initiative is currently volunteer-driven and self-funded. As the network matures, we will explore appropriate models for formalisation — but participation never requires financial contribution.

What gets included in the Ark?

The selection of materials is determined by curatorial nodes — the libraries, archives, and institutions themselves. We do not dictate what to preserve; we provide the platform, technology, and coordination for those who know best what matters.

Is this a commercial project?

No. This is a non-commercial, charitable initiative. No one profits from participation.

How is this different from the Internet Archive, Arctic World Archive, or Arch Mission?

We are not a single archive. We are a coordination network that connects existing archives with new storage technologies and placement infrastructure. We complement, not compete with, existing preservation efforts.

Can we just express interest without committing?

Absolutely. A simple "we are open to the idea" is exactly what we need at this stage. We are building a coalition, and every expression of interest strengthens the case for technology and infrastructure partners to allocate capacity.
